SA Team Heads Into the Wild at Founders Lodge
At the end of May, our South African team took a well-deserved break from the day-to-day and headed off on an incredible retreat to Founders Lodge. While the rest of us were holding the fort in Ireland, they were busy spotting rhinos and enjoying milk tart in the South African bushveld. We’re not jealous at all!
The trip started off on the right note, as the team were welcomed by lodge staff and treated to an open-air lunch overlooking a dam — complete with giraffes, springbok, and even a few white rhinos casually hanging around in the background (see slideshow below).
That afternoon’s game drive was packed with sightings: eland, rhino, giraffe, and a particularly bold elephant who came a little too close for comfort. Let’s just say the vehicle went very quiet, very quickly.
Sundowners followed with stunning views over the plains, and then it was time for a feast back at the lodge. On the menu? Local favourites like kudu fillet, sosaties, lamb chops, and seasonal veg — all topped off with a classic South African dessert: milk tart. The evening ended on a fun note with drinks and a competitive pool tournament, where Coenie proved once again that he’s still the undisputed champ.
The next morning kicked off bright and early with another action-packed game drive — cheetahs, buffalo, lions, zebra, more rhinos, and copious birdlife made sure the team had a proper farewell from the wild.
Big thanks to the SA team for sharing the highlights and amazing photographs in the slideshow above — and next time, maybe we all go?
